Our village is blessed with a beautiful oasis fed by natural springs, creating a green sanctuary amidst the stony desert landscape. Palm trees, fruit orchards, and vegetable gardens flourish in this fertile haven, providing sustenance and beauty to our community.
Surrounded by dramatic desert terrain with minor sand dunes and rugged mountain vistas, Oumjrane sits at the heart of one of Morocco's most striking geological regions, just 60 kilometers north of the Algerian border.
The desert region north of Oumjrane bears the ancient name Bou N'has, meaning "there where the copper is" in the local Berber language. This area holds the largest polymetallic veins in the region and continues to be the center of significant mining activity.
Mining in the Oumjrane area dates back to Roman times, making it one of Morocco's oldest continuously operated mining regions. The rich deposits of copper and other metals have shaped the economic and cultural identity of our village for over two millennia.
Today, the mining operations continue to provide employment and economic stability to the region while respecting traditional ways of life and environmental stewardship that have been practiced here for generations.
